I started Kneping last year as a way to start tracing my family's history and Mennonite heritage through recipes, but it's become a family memoir in a broader sense as well.
Mainly I just tell stories, but memory is always imperfect, you know, so thankfully I have some faithful readers (i.e. Patrick) to offer additions and corrections as necessary.
For more on kneping and zweiback, check out the introduction.
I grew up on a farm in South Dakota, went to school in Iowa and then Nebraska, lived by a lake in Minnesota, and now, a trio of Italian markets in Connecticut. I'd love to build a farmyard still with my brother back in South Dakota and market the moonshine as Duke and Ace Whiskey, which everyone would love -- because how could you not love a whiskey named after dogs? Only I don't actually like whiskey. And my brother has plans of his own. So now I dream about a bakery.
